How does diplomacy work in multiplayer? do you get a better looking avatar with better music when you pick charismatic or telepathic?

most are repulsive anyway. charis just increases the odds for better leaders. (and better assimilation)

Diplomacy is limited in MP. In x-ways you can do non-aggression packs for x number of turns. This is useful early in the game because if you go to war, both parties will usually fall behind the rest. The other players will be developing better economically by going to supers/robos.

Charismatic and telepathic do not change your avatar or the music. These are good race picks against the AI, but they don't help much in multiplayer. There are much better choices.

heh the better looking avatar was a joke, so i guessed right, char is a waste of points

how do you sign NAPs when you're repulsive? and are trade/research treaties worth having?

You can ask for a chat in game or use private chat on Kali or IRC. It's just an aggreement between two players. You assume both players will honor it. If you break the NA it's unlikely they will want to play with you again.

I know repulsive is the easiest 6 points you will ever get, when everyone is trying to kill you anyway

but what about tech trades? doesn't anyone see how powerful they can be? its like a substitute for creative, you can get the techs that you badly need

Tech trade is often banned, mostly for faster game turns without long chats.
