Expansion and BlitzAttack.

Well I guess you could add to the list: hide and develop, a common strategy to employ with a creative race or a research heavy race.

Philosophical question, probably has a different answer depending on who you ask: how early does an attack have to be to be considered a "blitz"? Or perhaps it's also a matter of the weapons and ship design employed, e.g. a fighter-bay equipped group of DDs, or a basic nuke BB.

The frontier of Blitz and expansion can be a bit spongy.

I think it depends a bit of Techage and Galaxysize.

But roughly I would say, a Blitz is an Attack, without a possiblity of return, cos Blitzer has huge lag in economic like less pop less economic techs.
A Blitzer strongly downgrades his economic to do an early attack.

Thats too simplistic. What about capture? I like capture.

there is no ring to capture them all

kill them all! has much more flare

i would define blitz as a concerted attack made prior to making any colony ships, speciffically employing the element of surprize to gain an upper hand

As a German I have to add that the try to kill em all can cause a bad rep. Especially when you are unsuccesful. (My grandparents told me so.)

Good point!

My grandfather fought against Germans in the 4x. Sniper shot him in the arm - he aimed for the head. So I am lucky to exist - serveral more centemeters and my father would never be borned!

War is only cool in video games. In real life it brings only real pain.

Capturing is good. So is clicking the yes button to massacre the captured population per turn. Then surrender the planet to them. Then repeat the process.
You simply must try that against an enemy.

against the AI, capture, they're too dumb to counter.

against a real live human being, burn the planet to cinders... drop your entire bomb load one at a time for maximum horror. Leaves you with nothing to defend, alternatively bomb it down to one pop then capture but don't defend, they'll feel obliged to recapture a useless planet, maybe (they must be dumb) leaving an opportunity to burn another planet.

"Blitz" is attacking before their ready, e.g. a good thing just as long as you you're attacking.
pfffft... Ion Cannons......................AAAGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
