"Repulsive is a freebie"? You must mean in MP only

I just about had a heart attack when somebody was complaining about making Repulsive a bigger hit because it is "almost a freebie". I eventually considered that for multiplayer that might be more valied.

But for single player, Repulsive is just crippling. Even giving it a full -10 value it is just not a good idea. No trade/research agreements? No technology trades to fill in the hard decisions? No freedom to pick your wars or buy off unexpected hostility? Disastrous.

Repulsive is not crippling in single player

Repulsive is not crippling in single player. You get 6 extra Picks' worth of economic, tech or military advantages that give you the opportunity to let your warships "negotiate" for you. On top of that the AI is so poor that a huge range of race designs can win against it.

OTOH I agree with the suggestion in another post that Repulsives should be able to negotiate treaties, but should have to give away more in order to succeed and probably have to make losts of gifts to keep treaty partners loyal.

repulsive is a "freebie" because for 6/10 possible -picks you only lose the ability to get leaders. making treaties with the AI is just lame, if your having trouble getting teamed by them, use race/info on each one and see if they are erratic/whatever and use your ships to negotiate as said above, if honorable/the other positive traits they will leave you alone.

Repulsive is a no brainer in single player as well. AI even on impossible is still incredibly easy.

Huge prewarp 7 ai on impossible and the game is still over by turn 175 because the ai is horrible.

Also, on impossible the AI really doesn't want to ally with you anyways. It will break any treaty that you manage to make fairly quickly and when you aren't expecting it. This makes repulsive an excellent choice for negative picks.

However, being Charismatic severely decreases this sort of behavior from the AI, even on Impossible. AI players that you have managed to get Non-Aggression Pacts and other treaties with will rarely attack you. It's a fairly cheap ability at 3 picks, and it's actually quite valuable, depending on your strategy.
