i am sorry, but can not get moo2 to play, hell i cant figure out where to begin. according the blog, if i dont have the DOS version, i guess i am screwed? i am soooo confused it is pitiful. i joined the IRC.quakenet/moo2 but no one there.

If you patch your MOO2 game to the newest version per Brazen's blog, you should be able to hook DOSbox up to it. I am really not good at this computer stuff, but I was able to figure it out for the most part without much help.

i have made it to step 6 of Sirons Moo2 on DOSbox instructions.

when i run dosbox i get

Z:\> mount c c:\program file\microprose\orion2
Directory c:\program doesn't exist

Z:\>drive c does not exist

i get told i need to mount it first, well isnt that what...

mount c c:\program files\micrprose\orion2

...does?

i cant even do...

mount c c:

...and then change directory to C so i can be at a C prompt.

ok, by typing...

mount c c:\

...i was able to mount drive C

now i can do c: to change directory

doing a DIR/w command i find that the folder "program files" is actually "progra~1" WTF?? there is also a "proga~2"?????

so in the dosbox.conf file i have...

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.

mount c c:\progra~1\microprose\orion2
c:
orion2~1

..NOW i get told...

can not locate all game files, please insert cd

...and i am back at the c promt.

Master of Magic was a sinch to get up and running, did it in 15min, MoO2?? i been at this for DAYS!!

Hmm... All you need is to CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW the Dosbox guide. Every issue you experienced is explained there. It would spare you a lot of time wasted configuring the game. Also copy all files from cd to your moo folder.

You sure you joined the right channell? There are usually 15 peeps every day, some of them iddle but you can always get help there.

When in Dos, file names can only be 8 characters... hence the progra~1.
~1 is just Dos shorthand for the first full directory name alphabetically that matches "progra" for the first six letters. Like Cabman said, it's in the guide.
As far as not having all game files, try step 1B, also in the guide:

You probably don't actually need the rkernel.zip file, but copying all the files from the CD to the installation folder and then editing orioncd.ini should be enough.
To get to the irc channel, I just click the "Chat" link at the top of this forum page.

It requires java, so make sure you have it installed. I just tried it here at work, and it works. It does say something about an error in the signature... just keep clicking ok/accept and you should get through. Also it told me it needed an older version of java, but when I hit OK it worked.

I saw you joining several times on moo channell...
Copy all files from cd>copy the kernel>apply 1.31 patch>apply 1.40patch>edit orioncd.ini (if it doesn't exist create one with notepad, put in a cd drive letter - i have "e:\"- and save as orioncd.ini in your moo2 folder). I hope you configured properly dosbox.conf file.
This must work.

finally got connected on the chat, with the help of a few people, we got the game working. had to use the TAB button from the C prompt to get to ORION2~1 and get the game to run, then everything worked fine.

who knows what the problem was.

anyways, look forward to being conquered on a continual basis!

thanx to all who helped me get this going.

:D
