The MOO sequel we deserve?

Postby Truhan » Sun May 06, 2012 7:15 pm

I've been playing a lot of Sins of a Solar Empire recently, but I find the real-time combat to be far too...uh...not in the style of MOO I guess. I've tried FreeOrion and of course ended up buying MOO3 (as a huge fan of MOO2, I couldn't imagine how horribly wrong MOO3 could go). But then I was perusing Steam today and saw a prepurchase notice for Endless Space:

I feel like an idiot for getting my hopes up, but I need SOMETHING to wash the awful taste of MOO3 out of my mouth and this is going to be cheaper than Rebellion. Please, someone tell me this is going to end well for once.

I have seen this clip and it does do a good job of covering most of the genre.
It does keep the lines between planets like MOO3 added.
The ship shapes look 'pretty' like they were created for a movie and not functional, like one would construct them with a purpose and durability in mind.
The 133 systems in larger than MOO2, which many yearn for and smaller than Lost Empire Immortal's 5000 systems.

It has only 7 races and no minor races.

Still, I hope it does well.
MOO1 Fan, MOO2 Fan, MOO3 needed too many changes = hopeless, getting older waiting for a MOO4 (still).

Endless Space is OK. But it really falls short on a lot of levels, mainly lack of espionage, no tactical combat and real shitty ship design when compared to moo2, no real population management all population is generic, and no ground combat at all. It does beat out Moo2 on certain things, I do prefer pooling the whole solar system into one entity. But overall it's hard to say it is an improvement.
