curious v1.40 error

I installed the 1.40 patch for MOO2 and it worked fine until I copied all of the files from the MOO2 CD to the working directory. Now it gives me the following error: "RACESTUF.lbx [entry 8] exceeds number of LBX entries" immediately after clicking the desktop shortcut. If I run it out of DOSBox (with the appropriate changes to the configuration file, including to automatically run MOO2 upon startup), I do not get this error until the game would normally display the main menu (after the opening cinematic). I have no idea what this means. Anyone have any insights?
