Slow under dos-box?

Postby darkedge1212 » Mon Jul 30, 2007 7:51 pm

I updated my Orion 2 version to 1.4, and it runs fine, but since me and my brother want to play multiplayer I tried to have it run on dosbox. It does run, but it runs unbearably slow.

Is there a way to make it run at a normal speed?

Searching the forum :P.
http://masteroforion2.blogspot.com/2006 ... guide.html here is the dosbox guide, see especially step 7. It worked even on my old P500 Mhz laptop ( slow but playable)

look at dosbox configuration file:

frameskip=1
core=dynamic
cycles=auto

you may easy speed up game by increace "frameskip" parameter
try frameskip=3 or frameskip=4 and game speed up !!!

I wonder if you guys have windows XP, because it seems that many people are having the same problems with sound, with crashes, with mouse, the game being slow etc. and the instructions don't help that much, there seems to be something inherently wrong with the combination XP+DosBox+OrionII.

You may get used to it, but if you're a XP user try VDMSound once, and you'll see what I mean.

Well, I consider that combination ( xp+DB + MOO2) the most stable among others i played. I used Win 98 SE/XP with Kali and had enormously more crashes than now.

That's bad then. Unfortunately VDMSound doesn't seem to have very good network support. I wonder how much of the dosbox crashes are caused by online-play, because when I use it for testing modifications I have those crashes/problems anyway, and thus prefer vdms.
