Unable to open mox.set

Postby ShadesOfGrey » Sun Jul 01, 2007 9:21 pm

Hi everyone, I'm getting the above error when I try starting MOO2. I installed from the CD, copied the contents of the CD, changed the orioncd.ini file, installed the 1.31 and then the 1.40 patch. I use doxbox 0.7 and get the error whenever I try running orion2.exe. I made the changes to the dosbox.conf file suggested for MOO2, also.

Any suggestions?

I can get the Win95 version running, but it messes up after awhile (graphics stop displaying correctly). This may be because I'm running SLI graphics, but I haven't tested that yet.

Machine is WinXP SP2 up-to-date.

But you can still play MOO2 after this message?

Otherwise, just delete/remove mox.set. It is generated each time you start moo2.

No, I get that message and the game won't start. I tried deleting it, but it still says the same thing. I've been playing with the Win95 executable in WinXP in compatibility mode, but I can only get about 60 turns into the game before the video goes bananas. I'm not sure what that problem is, so I'm trying with the DOS version.

I have no idea.

It works generally without (or also write protected) mox.set and even write protected moo folder.

Did you use the recommended 1.31 zip patch? There was some other exe 1.31 patch which caused trouble.

Yes, I used the .zip patch. However, I was able to get the Windows version running. I had compatibilty mode on for Win95, and this somehow made the video worse. I turned it off, and the game works fine, with some mouse bug exceptions.

Aha! Somehow I missed the need to run Orion2v14.exe and was trying to run the original Orion2.exe.
