Issues with Sound

Hello, I might have done things a bit backward, hence the problem, but...

I installed MOO2 from Dosbox .65 because I couldn't run the install.exe from windows. Then I patched it with 1.31 and set the sound accordingly. I played the game through dosbox and the sound worked fine. Then I applied the 1.4 patch and ran it from the desktop icon. No sound, but strangely, I could continue the game that I had started with 1.31. I then ran the game through Dosbox again and sound was back, but the version was 1.31.

I tried running setsound from XP but, naturally, I just got an error message. Any hints as to what might be going on?
