Mouse freezes

Recently I found my old MoO II CD and I wanted to play this great game which I havent played for years again.
But after I had installed it and tried to start a new game, I noticed that my mouse freezes very often. The mouse works for 10 seconds and then freezes for a minute.
I hoped that the 1.31 patch would help to fix this problem, but it didn't.

Does anyone know this problem or has an advice what to do? I really like to play this game again, but I cannot do so with my mouse freezing all the time.

Dos version orion2.exe or the win version orion95.exe?
Your OS is 2k?

AFAIK the win version had some troubles under 2k. Disabling hardware acceleration solved it IIRC.
