Is 32,767RP the most the game allows?

I reached 32,767RP. Not hard to do when I prolong a game as democracy + subterranean an a difficulty that is not impossible.
My question is: I know adding RPs past this point adds no more science to the main map screen. I just want to know is this cap just visual or is it hard coded in the game (ie more scientists than this is pointless).
Does anyone have a an answer to this?
