slowing down research

Postby Zoa120 » Sun Apr 16, 2006 1:11 pm

I've been looking for a mod that would slow down the research gain in the game. I want to do this because I think I would enjoy having a slower paced game, and not having the game turn into a race for the end game techs. I want to actually use my lower end techs. Anyone have made a mod like this or know of anything like this?

Welcome Zoa.

This can be easily done with OCL (for 1.31) or OCL plus (for 1.4). You can DL these tools in LBs download section.

Here is a short instruction:

I tried to mod it back in april and I gave up after several attempts. I just thought about playing some MOO2 lately but I still want slower research. If anyone could help me that'd be swell. Please remember that I'm a complete noob at modding. Thank you.

You were able to run OCL?

Just increase the costs of the techfields then. This will obviously slow down research.

That's what i tried, but when I played the game, then the research cost was the same as before. It took the same amount of time to research anything.

Well, I see only 2 possible reasons then:

a) You actually didnt implement the changes of the txt file. AFAIK OCL should provide an error message then.

b) By mistake you launched an unmodified Orion exe. When you move a DOSversion exe around (between some folders) or you made a backup/mod folder and moved all orion files there, the DOS pif (orion2v140) is not adjusted automatically. By clicking the exe in the new mod folder you actually still launched the unmodified exe in the original folder. Check out the working directory in pif and exe.
