Mapgen info wanted!

Hi
I know this is a little late( by a few years) but I would like to create new maps on a Linux machine! I do not want to do it using wine or dosbox, but native code. I have looked in the archives and can not find any details/code of the overall generation.

I looked at the results, in the saved game file. ( looking at stars and planets array).
It looks like it uses a stripe generation, Randomly create stars along a stripe then filling in any big open spaces.

From reading I think that there are tables that hint at the planet type for each star ( Where?)

Any code, algorithms, tables or ideas would help!!

Map increase slowly, heh? For playing purposes it's not a good idea imo. Some players may like it though.
