It's generally better not to use it in multi player games but it can work in single-player, but then most picks can do that. If I could redesign the hero system I would have it yield multiple choices each time it does a hero check. Those with repulsive would get fewer choices to pick from, usually t...

Re: Odds/formula for capturing a tech?
Can someone please tell me the odds for capturing a tech when you capture a colony? It seems that if I bombard beforehand, it is less likely. Sometimes though I capture nothing, even if the population is large, there are a lot of buildings, and there is even a building on the colony that requires a...

Re: MOO2 on MS Vista
I'm still running XP pro. So long as you can get dosbox running you should also be able to run MOO2 dos version. Not sure about the Windows version but there should be backwards compatibility built in to it somewhere.Has anyone been able to get MOO2 to run on Vista pc?

spying
Best way to prevent that is to have a lot of spies and send them to whichever of the AI is doing the most offensive spying. They will put all their's on defense in response. If they have a high spy defense you'll lose a few spies in the process.

To answer the OP, I would guess that option 3 would probably work the best. What it really needs is a good game designer to look at MOO2 and similar games and player suggestions. Once they have a good understanding of it then go to work on making a better MOO2. It may not need to change that much. T...

1-5 are minor things. They don't effect the core-gameplay. I really dislike point 6. First, Ground Combat doesn't make much sense when you control the sky anyway. And along that point Kerboros made actually a right choice by excluding it in their 4X Game SOTS. More emphasis on Ground Combat would s...

My addiction to MOO2 comes and goes. Work and real-life are keeping me at away from playing as much at the moment. I think the AI actions vary a lot from game to game depending on what types of personalities they have. There are times when most of them will trade often with each other and sometimes ...

I used the races that you guys recommended: UniTolProd+1LGHW and... i see what you mean, my newbie races wouldn't stand a chance.. i can't believe some good players can compete with a research race Tech races can compete when played by someone who really understands how to play them. You can't play...

I've thought of a different way to go about doing this that should produce less boring maps than using the mirroring method. First, you need to having a scoring system for systems and planets. This is what I came up with. Planet Scoring & System Scoring The System score is the number of planets (NP)...

TransD is usually best used by blitzing races but they aren't too popular. I used it in one of my uncreative/feudal races to help them swarm the galaxy. The early game speed boost was a big help since I, quite literally, had no technology at my disposal. Right. TransD works in blitizing races but t...

The -20 attack is not a good choice in mp. With ship initiative on, this means you always loose the chance to go first in combat. It also makes it very difficult to hit anything with beam weapons. The most common negative picks are repuslive, -20 Ship Defense and -10 Ground Combat. One alternative i...
