Egad, I hate to do this, but Alex posted a great method for killing an amoeba early, so I guess I need to come clean with my "kill a hydra with 6 MIRV nuke frigates with starting engine tech" strategy. I've shown this to Zirkahn and Cybersaber, but I don't know if they shared it with anyone or if an...

Yes, seems to be random...but who knows...mebbe Gusset (who terraforms a lot) has some further info. No idea...while I haven't kept any statistics, it seems to me that I say to myself, "Darn...tundra" as often as I say, "Cool! Desert!" (switch those if I'm playing aquatic). Actually I was hoping fo...

How were these statistics gathered? Did you generate a series of maps and query each system to determine the presence of specials, or did you dig into the code to get the numbers, or something else? What size maps were used? etc. I'm curious how it was gathered, it might help put some of the numbers...

Merry Christmas to all MOOers! (and everyone else, too... :D Personally I like this time of year very much. I enjoy the gift giving and the gift getting ;) as much as anyone, even though there is a certain amount of stress that comes with it. Personally, though, the season also is a reminder to me o...

Galaxy ages (pre-warp, average tech, and post warp...I have not thought this through for advanced tech games) My personal findings: the higher the starting tech level, the greater the advantage in taking a production race. In an average tech game, where all players are given colony ship technology a...

Race pick strategies and game settings
I thought it might be nice to start a thread containing people's thoughts on what race picks go good, or go poorly, with particular game settings. This will probably result in some spirited discussion, and perhaps the newer players around will be able to wade through the discussion and pick up on on...

but I would spend more attention to a balanced map. Sometimes one Player gets much more better systems than other guys get. If all r gettin crap its ok imho. I agree very strongly. Applying a quasi-mirror to the map using home systems, where stars closest to home system B, C, and D are the same as ...

Re: 77 registered people
Where are they? I only see a few who have posted. ..... The world's internet forums are full of lurkers. I don't think this forum is any different from most of the forums I read and/or participate in. People sometimes don't want to post...you know the phrase: "It is better to be silent and thought ...

Re: going AI in a x-way
Going fast AI is often determining for the end of x-ways, cos fighting AI is much more easier than fighting humans. I saw x-ways going "dead" cos of early AI. I think we should make a rule for this cases too. Imho the player should play that long unitl the players calld a winner or own empire is do...

It is interesting nobody seem to use creative...? I know it's expensive and in MP games you can use 8 pics better, but it definitly remains powerful. I don't know if it makes sense in MP games, but in SP games I never walk without. Maybe I try, if anybody can give my a good research plan?! E.g. Aut...

Odd one, Siron, I have never seen that happen. Hopefully it is a very rare occurance. If you are able to figure out what causes it so LB can perhaps make it consistent, that would be a good thing. Personally, as far as losing RPs due to stealing/capturing/finding a tech goes, I have to disagree with...

The old Star League, back in the days of TEN, first banned tech trading, if I understand correctly. I wasn't around the MOO2 world then so I am only going by second-hand information. What I was told was that tech trading was banned because sometimes a powerful player would turn a less powerful playe...

Population max and pollution control does have an impact on production, but wouldnt it be more economical to pick other picks at this point in the begininng of the game because pollution (tolerant) isnt extremely high and when it gets to that point there is technology to help it and with population...

How come you remove Orion? Seems a bit odd that give the games title. Because if taking Orion is permitted, the game can turn into nothing more than a race to find and kill the Guardian. That can be fun, but it's not time well spent in a multiplayer game that takes hours to complete. By making Orio...

I see the potential here, LB. Can you expand on how the planets are actually selected? Does each home system get independently built from pre-existing lists of planets for each type, or does it happen once and then copied into all home systems? I have a bit of a reservation about guaranteeing a rich...
