The number 4 you refer to is the weapons category. As you can see in the weapons table, interceptors, assault shuttles, bombers and heavy's all have 4. hey
sounds like you have some tailored mod that suits your own playstyle, as playing against standard AI research is already very costly and Doomstars are never used.
I'd still take a look tho, why not.

Patch version 1.50.6 has just been made available, containing another 3 dozen bug fixes or so.
Note that for this edition, a lot of parameter names have been changed.
Your personal mods will need an update to run on 1.50.6.

Do you get a crash message?
Something like "Mark Block Stack Size Exceeded"
If that is the message you get, then its very likely solved in 1.50 patch
