The LBX files contain a great deal of information. The basic format has been deciphered by many people over the years. Most of the LBX files are encoded as archives of blocks of data. The data types vary block to block. A number of the LBX files are smacker videos. All you have to do is rename the L...

Re: No Sound after 1.4 install
I can still play my 1.31 version that has sound but the 1.4 doesn't. Hi Lharrs, Sound will work in v1.40 with vdmsound. You will have to manually create a shortcut and edit the properties of the orion2v140.exe (the pif file). You should probably start by deleting the desktop shortcut (if the patch ...

Re: Unable to even OPEN MOO2 WINXP/dos emulation
Hi, Welcome to our forum! Oh, one more thing: there was no DOS installer on the cd I gave my friend, so we had to improvise some things. Could this be a factor? Yes, this is likely the problem if you are trying to install the DOS version manually from a CD that only has a windows version of the game...

Re: Minstart reconsidered
According to the 1.31 rule it seems impossible to have a Abundant huge ng Rich large ng Rich huge ng Urich medium ng Urich large ng Urich huge ng in hw. All these planets should be hg. I am not sure about an alternative minstart algorithm but I think we should accept this 1.31 rule. I am fine with ...

Thanks Trixx, These numbers should be useful. I have been analyzing game maps over the past few months and getting some similar results. My goal is to improve map balance. Since there seems to be interest in this topic, I will post some of my scripts here also and if I have time, I will post some of...

Hmmm. Increasing number in small-large gal seems possible....but not huge?! Or even huge? Huge should be possible too but I haven't experimented with it. The game has some limit to the total number of stars and the total number of planets in galaxy. If those limits are exceeded, I don't know what w...

Modifying the galaxy size for the map generator
The code for handling the different galaxy sizes can be altered to adjust the size of map, star sizes and density. You can modify the values at the file offsets below. These are offsets for the orion2v140.exe (subtract 0x40 from the offsets if you want offsets for orion2.exe v 1.31). NOTE: Take care...

Re: Refresh Rates in XP-DOS
Hi! I know how to fix refresh rates under XP for both ATI and nVidia cards. But I have never heard about fixing XP-DOS refresh rates. This should work VBEHz.zip with a VBE 3.0 enabled video card (Very few of them out there. Most are VBE 2.0 only). In order to use it, you will need to add it to the ...

Re: Sourcecode of MOO2 or other Ways to modify the game?!
So I considered about getting the source code from somewhere... And there is the problem: MicroProse doesn't exists since 2003 anymore and I don't know if the source code is still "alive" and is stored somewhere or if it was deleted with the closing of MicroProse. Atari now owns the rights to the s...
