dosbox and setsound.exe
Hi. I am having troubles configuring sound for MOO2 under DosBOX/ubuntu. The game runs fine but without sound. If i try to run " setsound.exe" it locks up (the grey background is set, with the top and bottom bar reading "Sound Configuration Utility, Copyright Miles Design / Miles Design Audio interf...

OK. I will explain here how to extract contents from .lbx files. This will allow you to get the sound effects and soundtrack. This also allows you to extract some text files and the images&fonts, although the images require some extra processed (I explained about fonts in another thread). All data i...

Later: It works. :D What there is before a offset "metricstable_base"? Your program have bug if to read characters from 0 to 255. ;) (MOO fonts seem to have characters ranging from 0 to 127 only, not 255). The incomplete information I have about the rest of the file is (offsets in hex): 0000-0071: ...

Hi. At some time I decoded the font format; it has a RLE compression similar to the images, but using 4-bit integers instead of 8-bit. The following code runs under linux+gcc+SDL. I think it should work in windows too, you can get the algorithm from it. Ask here if you got more questions: Uint16 met...

MOO2 stability
Hi, I found recently this forum and I am still amazed by the big community built around MOO2 online gaming. I've played a lot of single-player MOO2, and a few LAN games. I have never played online yet. Something that we (my LAN friends and me) found very annoying is the unstability of the game. Even...

Gusset: The analysis is statistical over generated maps, I didn't analyze the code. What I did was starting a game with MOO2, 8 players, huge galaxy , average level, and then analyzed that. The statistic gatherer ignored planets in systems with specials, but I forgot to ignore homeworlds when I did ...

Map generator stats
Hi. I'm new here. Alex|D asked me to post some statistics I have gathered about MOO2 map generator, so I will be posting them by pieces (I have to regenerate some of them, because I introduced some biases by counting homeworlds in statistics for planet kinds). OK, let's start: About star specials: -...

Map generator statistics
Some time ago I gathered extensive statistics about the map generator. I can publish them here if you like or are interested. I have to run them again because they might be slightly biased (I counted homeworlds, so probabilities for terran planets are slightly higher than what they should). In parti...
